OCZ Vertex 3 240GB Review

We’ve seen SandForce-based solid state drives become very popular over the last while as prices have continued to drop and consumers taking notice of the massive system performance boost that these SSDs can offer. And while these drives are very fast, there are some people who really crave speed. And today might be just the thing to satisfy that craving: the OCZ Vertex 3.
Features and Specs
OCZ is known for their SSD innovations, and the Vertex 3 looks to be another in a long line, sporting the new SandForce controller and promising big performance increases to what was already an impressive product in the Vertex 2 predecessor. Today we’ve got the Vertex 3 in a 240GB capacity. Big and fast; we love that combination. Solid State Drives are the exotics of the computer world, boosting performance increases in leaps and bounds. But as we know, those increases often come with a hefty price tag, right? Perhaps not. The OCZ Vertex 3 looks to offer big performance numbers at a very respectable price tag.
Think a SandForce SSD is fast? Wait until you see what this new one can do. Strap in, you’re about to experience some serious speed.
OCZ Tecnology
Entering the memory market in August 2000, OCZ Technology was built around the determination to manufacture the best high-speed DDR and RDRAM. OCZ was founded by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, and our commitment to the end user has not digressed. OCZ Technology has been an innovator in many areas. At OCZ we have one primary goal: to ensure that every customer is 110% satisfied. Every employee at OCZ is dedicated to accomplishing this goal. We offer a Lifetime warranty on every memory module we sell. We back this warranty with friendly, courteous staff that is willing to answer any question. At OCZ, if a staff member cannot answer your question, they will be forthright and put you in touch with a technician or engineer who can properly assist you.
Note the asterisk above: to achieve the full-speed potential of the Vertex 3, an Intel P67 platform is recommended. And after seeing what this drive can do, we daresay require if you want to see what it can really do. Onboard Marvell controllers simply will not unleash their full potential, so keep that in mind if you have an X58 motherboard because you will not experience top performance with the Vertex 3 in that setup.
Conclusion
Our sample is a pre-retail engineering Beta sample, so it came in a plain brown cardboard box, so, unfortunately, no photos to show of the retail packaging just yet. However, past on our past experience with OCZ SSD products, we’ll wager that the retail box will be a sleek black-and-white (possibly silver-accented) monochromatic box, not unlike the last few solid-state products we’ve seen from OCZ.
