Flipping the Cougar 600M over on its back gives us a good look at the base and laser taking into consideration the thumb rest is dead center, and a view of what I call skates. The skates are the black Teflon pads situated around the Cougar 600M Gaming Mouse at the top, sides and bottom of our mouse, and designed in such a way that it should give you good unrestricted fast movement on any smooth surface.

Packaging

Software
What we think is equally important when purchasing a good gaming mouse is not only its features but also the software provided with it. The UIX software from Cougar is available on their website for download and installation.
This software will work alone with the Cougar 600M or when purchased with a corresponding Cougar keyboard, can marry the two with its software suite as well. Cougar fusion devices can interact to keep themselves synchronized, taking profit from interactions, and optimize your performance.
You can use the stand alone software with your Cougar mouse or if you happen to own their keyboard, you can use the dedicated MR Key on the Cougar keyboard to start recording a macro on the mouse, without needing to open any software. Provided your 600M gaming mouse is running in conjunction with or accompanied by one of their gaming keyboards, you can simultaneously switch keyboard and mouse modes using the dedicated mode switch keys on the keyboard, keeping them synchronized.
Another great feature is you can light up the Cougar 600M in the color of your choice with over 16 million colors to choose from and find the perfect match to your system’s color scheme.
2 WAY-INSTANT MODE SWITCH
Holding down the instant mode switch button of both mouse and keyboard will switch to the mode assigned to that button for as long as you keep it pressed. You can temporarily switch to a mode loaded with defensive/healing skills while playing a MMORPG, only to go back to the standard, more offensive mode when you release the button. I found the UIX software to be very intuitive and extremely easy to use.

Testing
When it comes down to testing of any mouse, we always like doing this by using real world situations. Today I will be using the Cougar 600M Gaming Mouse in several different methods: Surfing the Web, Checking Emails, and Photo Editing, plus writing this Review. But like most of you who already know, the Cougar 600M Mouse was designed to do something else really well, and that’s gaming, so I will be doing some very extensive gaming to give you our very best opinion on how the Cougar 600M performs in that arena.
Comfort and Ergonomics:
The Cougar 600M Gaming mouse is very comfortable to use, especially if you’re a user with a claw grip and big hands, who requires the comfort and ability to rest your palm at the back, while still being able to make contact with all the buttons available. The small ledge on the left for resting your thumb with button placements there was absolutely nirvana, making it not just very comfortable but strikingly fast during use.
Some users who are used to a weighted or heavier mouse may find the Cougar 600M a bit on the light side at just 90 grams, but after several days of usage I became acclimated to its lighter weight and movements across our gaming pad were accurate, fast, and fluid.
If I had to nitpick about anything at all, it would be the non-slip scroll wheel. Although very comfortable, it was a bit stiff when spinning. Still, after several days of use, it became a lot easier to spin; this also confirms and attests to the solid build quality of the Cougar 600m.
All button clicks come easy with a definite click response that you will feel or may even hear when pressed. Overall, although the design is geared more toward right handed individuals who prefer the claw grip, I believe others will equally enjoy the comfort it brings while using this mouse as well. During long gaming sessions, I did not experience any real discomfort, only normal fatigue was present, and that was only after several hours of gaming.
How did it test?
General Use:
During general use while typing, surfing, e-mailing, and working in Photoshop, the Cougar 600M was fast, fluid, and very comfortable during many hours of use. Dragging, clicking, copy paste, and scrolling are what most of us do daily. The ergonomics the Cougar 600M provides for your palm and finger placement left us with no distress at all. Let us move on and see how it performs in the gaming arena.
Gaming:
Now, when it came to gaming, I used this mouse to test several high movement and intense button action games. I tested the Cougar 600M with Battlefield 4, Call of Duty, Titanfall, Crysis 3, Sniper Elite V2, (plus a favorite of mine) Loadout. If you are familiar with these games, you will know that they can get very intensive, and with the fast action and button movements it’s crucial to have the mouse perform to high demands.
I found that the Cougar 600M did just that for us. Setting up gaming profiles and button customization in the software along with in game options was very easy. Once you have it set-up to your preferences, this mouse performed flawlessly. Like any new mouse, it took some time getting used to.
The movements and glide motions were as if the mouse floated in our hands. If you are the type of gamer, that likes to, claw grip or fingertip, this is also a good mouse to do this with since it is a bit wider, and longer than a standard mouse.
Overall Performance:
Overall I felt this mouse performed to its advertised specifications. All the extras are a big benefits to game, and, programing your profiles will definitely help you with making adjustments from regular use to game play on the fly. With our overall experience, on a scale of 1 to 10 ten (with 10 being best), I would rate this mouse a 9.0 out of 10.
Conclusion and Final Thoughts
I have to start by telling you our experience with the Cougar 600M Gaming mouse was one of pleasure and surprise, and after some programing of the buttons, our gaming experience was great! The Cougar 600M comes in your choice of Black or Orange, with matte soft touch nonslip surface. I especially liked the Orange soft touch finish on this model of the 600M, and with the many lighting color choices it offers, I am able to match green lighting theme perfectly.
The weight and feel 90 grams was a bit light and took some getting use to, but after hours of gaming, the button placement, the quality of the button switches along with the responsiveness they provided when pressed, made our gaming experience that much more enjoyable.
I have been totally enjoying this mouse outside of the gaming arena too. It has made our work experience that much better with all the functions it offers. The comfort, dexterity, precision, and balance it provides while working or gaming put it right up there with others near the top of our list.
