Have you wondered why there are so many chipsets? Z170, Z270, Z370, 990FX, X370, X299, X399, etc. Intel and AMD have a lot of motherboards and we try to make sense of all the changes that make each one different. Also, we find out that Intel doesn't have a clear reason for changing their chipset with every CPU release.
Gigabyte has done a great job with motherboard designs in recent years. The Aorus X299 Gaming 9 won the Best Choice Gold Award at Computex by setting several records, including overclocking ones. If performance isn't enough, the sheer beauty should make anyone say take my money!
A lot of Z270 motherboards perform better by small margins, but it's hard to find an Intel board that offers more features than what MSI does at this price. The Gaming Pro Carbon looks great, has nice lighting effects, and overclocks pretty nicely. This might be the best overall Z270 motherboard.
What happens when Gigabyte supports Quadro graphics design cards? They get a silver PCB of course! Outside of the Quadro support, it’s hard to say how this board differs so much from some of the Aorus Z270 gaming flavors. Aorus makes a huge splash for Gigabyte by offering RGB lighting never before seen in the motherboard market. On top of that, the Z270 motherboard does a great job of overclocking the Intel 7700K CPU. Oh, and if you want amazing sound card quality audio, the Gaming 7 is the motherboard for you.
CES 2017 coverage marches right along with another great set of show floors from some great companies. Geil showed off some excellent peripherals, Deepcool blew our minds with awesome looking cases and fans, and MSI continues to deliver great motherboards. However, we finally got to catch up with AMD and get a solid look at what to expect with the Ryzen and Vega releases. We have a little bit longer to wait before full specs arrive, but confidence is certainly rising in what team Red is trying to deliver.
