Patriot has…. a Really Interesting External Thunderbolt SSD

USB type-c hasn’t taken the PC world by storm yet and that could have a lot to do with few devices being able to truly take advantage of the speed. Patriot is deciding to change that. I can say that having an external drive that can transfer large amounts of data in lighting speed time frames would be awesome, so the EVLVR portable SSD is a great option with it’s support of Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. From the looks of things, it seems that Patriot is bringing NVMe performance to the convenience of external plug-n-play. Not only does the Thunderbolt 3 connection keep up with the speeds, but it also negates the need for any external power connections either. Normally, we’d expect to see capacity issues, but the EVLVR even has a 1 TB capacity option. Based on what I can tell, it also seems like the drive will work with normal USB type-c connections, but you’ll be limited to a 10 Gb/s transfer speed versus the much faster 40 Gb/s speed Thunderbolt 3 can deliver. (Needs confirmation) I have to admit, while this may not be the largest CES 2018 announcement we’ll come across, it’s really intriguing nonetheless. The EVLVR is certainly a device that can make having a Thunderbolt 3 port worth the trouble and even get a lot of consumers to begin using the USB type-c port a bit more often. Time will tell, but I think this is a great step in the right direction. Also, what’s up with those teasers about the Scorch and Viper M.2 drives? Patriot ...
