GIGABYTE has Great New Motherboards and Laptops at CES 2016

GIGABYTE had an extremely impressive show floor this year at CES. It seemed like they showed off everything they had and quite frankly, I was blown away at how top-of-the-line all of their products seemed. One of the most intriguing releases coming up that I got to see personally were some new AMD boards coming with the AM3+ socket, but there were also some amazing overclocking boards on the INTEL side as well. No matter what I looked at, I was thoroughly impressed so let’s start diving into more details about what GIGABYTE showed us at CES 2016. Let’s begin with two AM3+ boards that GIGABYTE is releasing. The GA-990FX-Gaming looks like the high-end AMD motherboard users have been waiting for for some time now. It actually has a full 8 phase power system to handle high end CPUs like the 9590. It has NVMe support as well as an M.2 socket. The heatsinks look nice and the heatpipe running across them will help dissipate the heat further. The PCIe slots are reinforced like their other gaming boards, and it also includes the Killer LAN with the AMP-UP audio. This board has everything a 9590 user will most likely want, with little that isn’t useful. The AM3+ is going by the wayside, but we probably have almost a whole year before we see Zen. Most AMD users are budget conscious anyways, so with an MSRP of $149.99, this board is at a perfect spot for users who still want quality and features. I feel like this board is going to own the AM3+ market from here on out...

GIGABYTE has a New 990FX Motherboard!?! GA-990FX-Gaming

UPDATE: As requested, here’s an update about the availability of the GA-990FX-Gaming since it just showed up for sale. Links below. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128886 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019C3S2CS/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=0K6H28YZ47R31PRV6DY5&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2079475242&pf_rd_i=desktop I spend far too much time scouring the internet for anything hardware related. As it is, I see a lot of comments from people asking why nobody is coming out with better FX series motherboards, especially with the 9590 having been out for quite some time now. To be fair to manufacturers, nobody wants to invest too much in a chipset that is on the verge of being obsolete. This makes what GIGABYTE is doing all the more confusing but I think I can shed some light on what’s really going on. Between certain supply issues and what amounts to a surprisingly high demand, GIGABYTE may be positioning themselves as a sole contender with the release of the GA-990FX-Gaming. First, let’s talk about what could be bringing this on. Both ASUS and GIGABYTE are experiencing about a 10% drop in their motherboard sales. Most of the time when this happens, everyone is quick to point out that desktops are going to fail and be replaced by the all-powerful tablet (seriously?). But there are other factors attributing to a possible rise with AMD, namely, Skylake. INTEL really missed the...

DirectX 12

DirectX 12 is a Great Thing for AMD

And everyone for that matter! But let’s not harsh on my sacrifice of proper grammar for stylistic writing when we can focus on good things from DirectX 12. I’m a firm believer that by the end of next year, DirectX 12 and Vulcan are going to be taking the gaming world by storm. I got a chance to play around with Fable Legends and the graphics were down right amazing! Techspot recently did a comparison of DirectX 11 and 12 to show the FPS gain from a couple of different configurations in Ashes of the Singularity. While the improvements were nice overall, there were some particular gains with FX CPUs that I’ve been waiting to see for quite some time now. Let’s start with the bad news. DirectX 12 is not Bulldozer’s salvation. If anything DirectX 12 is the final nail in that coffin, in the sense that new architecture is long overdue. Shifting away from single-thread performance was never a good move. I still believe AMD was on the right track in that we needed to move to more utilization of multi-threading, especially in gaming, but that shouldn’t have been at the sacrifice of single-thread. Zen is looking to solve these issues, but these initial results are showing an 8350 struggling to keep up with an i3. Even though the i3 is later gen, we’re still talking about a low budget range CPU beating out an enthusiast one for gaming. Now that we got that out of the way though, let’s get on to the good news for AMD. We still have only o...

Gigabyte X99-SLI Motherboard Review

Introduction We are starting to see more and more Intel X99 series motherboards hit the market. The X99 series wasn’t designed to be a budget series platform, but that doesn’t mean it can’t fit into other marketing segments as well. There are many users who don’t feel right spending $500+ on a motherboard, but are okay with something in between this price and the low-end/budget models. Now that this platform has had its time to mature, manufacturers are releasing a range of X99 motherboards to meet the demands of all types of consumers. We have a wide variety, from high end enthusiast boards to the more basic motherboards. Today, we have a chance to take a look at a Gigabyte X99 motherboard that meets “mid range” description perfectly: the Gigabyte X99-SLI. This motherboard is designed with quite a few bells and whistles, but with a more moderate price. Let’s dive in and take a closer look…   About Gigabyte: GIGABYTE was founded in 1986, establishing our uncontested position in continuous technological innovation. By focusing on key technologies and achieving strict quality standards, GIGABYTE has been regarded as an innovative and trusted motherboard leader in the globe. To keep pace in a rapidly changing world, we have offered a comprehensive product line covering Motherboards, Graphics Cards, PC Components, PC Peripherals, Laptops, Slate Devices, Desktop PCs, Network Communications, Servers and Mobile Phones. INTEL Skylake Coming on the 5th of August, Awesome New Gigabyte Boards

Skylake’s been in the news for some time now. We’ve gotten to see some of the new features coming with the Z170 chipset, heard about INTEL aiming the high-end CPUs towards overclocking enthusiasts, and find out that everything was going to be releasing sometime towards the end of this year. Now, we have an official date for the launch of Skylake as well as some shots of some extremely impressive boards being released by GIGABYTE. August 5th is the official release date for the Core i7-6700K and Core i5-6500K. There’ll be some other SKUs that launch as well, but the K series chips are the ones with the unlocked multipliers making overclocking a breeze. These chips have an incredibly modest 95W TDP rating that hopefully translates into some huge amounts of overclocking headroom. Currently, 5 GHz is the magic number that is incredibly difficult to reach for everyday use. While silicon is ultimately the limiting factor, we can hope that with some new architecture, we might get to see some higher overclock ceilings with normal cooling setups. Time will tell, but if new motherboards have any sway in the matter, then GIGABYTE plans on destroying overclocking records if their initial features live up to their appearance. I have to say, while GIGABYTE makes some good quality products, I feel like they got a little behind in the Z97 segment of motherboards. A lot of their boards didn’t seem to rank up as high as other boards. The VRM design hardly pushed pas...

Gigabyte X99-UD3P Motherboard Review

Introduction The X99 chipset has now had a little bit of time to mature. During its initial launch Gigabyte sent us the X99-UD4 motherboard for review. The X99-UD4 took home our Great Hardware Award for its simple aesthetics along with a solid performance to value. Now that we are six months into the release of the X99 chipset, we are seeing more motherboards become available at a much more affordable price. Today, we are going to be looking at one of these motherboards that offer a similar performance to the X99-UD4 in a more simplified package and price. We introduce to you the Gigabyte X99-UD3P. Aesthetically, the Gigabyte X99-UD3P is very similar to the UD4 motherboard with some obvious changes. As we continue here, we are going to take a closer look at the Giagbyte X99-UD3P to see exactly what those differences are. Before we do that, let’s move forward and talk about Gigabyte.   About Gigabyte: GIGABYTE was founded in 1986, establishing our uncontested position in continuous technological innovation. By focusing on key technologies and achieving strict quality standards, GIGABYTE has been regarded as an innovative and trusted motherboard leader in the globe. Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming Review

The Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming is the graphics card we're looking at today, and it's latest in the company's popular model series, coming with updated features for the namesake cooler. We've been impressed in the past with Windforce graphics cards, and we suspect this new one will be no different. It's constructed in metal rather than plastic, and comes with an aggressive factory overclock and a few great features such as ShadowPlay, Adaptive Temperature Control, and GPU Boost clocks. Suffice it to say, we're rather excited to get this card on the bench.

Gigabyte Raptor Gaming Mouse

With the Raptor gaming mouse, Gigabyte is targeting a rather specific crowd in the gaming world: those who want a claw-style rodent. We don't see many of these, and the Raptor looks sleek and comes with a few interesting features. Not only is it a claw mouse, but it's also nearly ambidextrous. Interesting, to be sure. But will it alienate mainstream users, or zero in on those who want something special? Let's take a closer look at the Gigabyte Raptor gaming mouse and make the call.
