CPU & Motherboards...
Core i7 may hit the streets on November 17th?
written by Ciro - November 6, 2008 06:30

While a hazy "November" is all Intel has to say regarding Core i7's availability, TechReport have attempted to narrow things down claiming that November 17th is the aim.

Intel has given us a vague "November" schedule for Core i7 retail availability, but we've heard from a solid (albeit anonymous) source that Intel is actually aiming for November 17. That date should see the arrival of the Core i7 launch trio, with the 3.2GHz Core i7-965 Extreme costing $999, the slower 2.93GHz Core i7-940 priced at $562, and the 2.66GHz Core i7-920 available for a tantalizing $284. Compatible motherboards should be out by then, too.

Out of the two Core i7 mobos we tested, the Intel DX58SO will have a price tag in the $300-350 range, and Asus is setting its P6T Deluxe at $309. You'll also want to invest in a triple-channel DDR3 memory kit, which will set you back around $130 at Newegg if you want a reasonably speedy 3GB kit from a major manufacturer. Total upgrade cost: just over $700 with a Core i7-920. Of course, seeing how fast these chips are, some enthusiasts may be more than happy to pay that kind of entry price.
