written by Ciro - October 26, 2008 06:00

Microsoft's revenue has soared 9% in the opening quarter of fiscal 2009, totaling $15.06 billion. With $14.8 billion being expected, the Redmond giant will sleep tight.

Redmond-based Microsoft Corporation has now announced that, in the first quarter of fiscal year 2009, its revenues went up 9% on-year and reached $15.06 billion, a bit higher than the $14.8 billion predicted by analysts. In the three month period that ended on September 30th, Microsoft made an operating profit of $6 billion and a net profit of $4.37 billion with the best results being posted by the combined businesses of Client, Microsoft Business Division and Server and Tools, which saw their sales go up over 20% on-year.

"In a challenging economic environment, the first-quarter results exhibit the strength and diversity of our business model," said Chris Liddell, CFO of Microsoft.
