Early last month, Pioneer revealed that it had developed a 400GB Blu-ray disc. Today, it's gone one step further in announcing plans of a 20-layer 500GB version.

The 20-layer 500GB Blu-Ray disc would be useful for storing extremely large amounts of data and, depending on demand and the actual research, such a media could be introduced between 2010 and 2012.

Having the International Symposium on Optical Memory's (ISOM) OK, Pioneer is now continuing its research so as to offer a 500GB disc in the mentioned time frame.
