Micron Technology launch "RealSSD" series
written by Ciro - August 5, 2008 08:30

Micron Technology has launched its attempt at the solid-state drive game. Dubbed the RealSSD series, the single-level cell based drives boast speeds up to 250 MB/s.

The new SSDs are aimed at the enterprise (P200 models) and mobile (C200) segments and feature SATA 3.0 Gbps interfaces, low power requirements and capacities of up to 256 GB.

Featuring a MTBF (mean time before failure) of up to 2 million hours, the P200 SSDs make use of SLC (single-level cell) NAND flash chips and have read and write speeds of up to 250 MB/s. The C200s on the other hand, are MLC (multi-level cell) based and have top read and write speeds of 250 MB/s and 100 MB/s respectively.

The 2.5-inch RealSSD P200s will enter mass production in Q4 and will go from 16 to 128GB in terms of storage capacity. The 1.8-inch C200 will range from 32 to 128GB while the 2.5-inch C200 models will go up to 256GB with all of them also aiming for Q4 production.
