Introduction
Firsts are always difficult. First day at school, first job, first car purchase. Fraught with anxiety and often self-doubt, a new experience is not easy. Preparation for the big moment may seem like forever, and instantaneous reactions may last a lifetime. It's not much different with product launches; countless hours of design, engineering, and preparation, not entirely knowing what to expect what a new product is unveiled. This can be nerve-wracking for even the most seasoned companies, but market newcomers have perhaps even more to lose.

Corsair is a seasoned company, but they are also newcomers to the case and chassis market, having successfully expanded their product lineup from memory-based offerings into power supplies and cooling. Venturing into case design and production appears to be Corsair's next logical step, and if history is any indication, we have hefty expectations of their first case, the Obsidian Series 800D.

As Corsair’s first tower, the 800D showcases some sleek aesthetics and extensive and unique features in a crowded marketplace that often lacks originality. Corsair may be new to the chassis business, but they've had years to watch and learn from other manufacturers’ mistakes.  It seems they have also listened to what people really want in a case, taking feedback to the drawing board, and then added their own ideas, ultimately resulting in the Obsidian Series 800D.

Can the Obsidian 800D rise to the challenge in a very competitive market?  Can Corsair continue their successful move from memory products into other PC component areas?  Let’s find out.

Thanks to Corsair for supplying the review sample.

Corsair has been a leader in the design and manufacture of high-speed modules since 1994. Our focus has always been on supporting the special demands of extreme gamers. While maintaining this core focus, in recent years, we’ve also brought our expertise, technology leadership and legendary quality and reliability to memory and other technology products for the mainstream consumer.  Corsair has expanded beyond memory modules to offer performance liquid cooling units and blocks under our Corsair Nautilus brand and power supplies under our HX Series brand.
