Specifications & Overview
Getting down to business, here's what the Ballistix sticks offer, from Crucial: "The Ballistix line is specifically built for performance enthusiasts who want to push the performance envelope without worrying about data loss or corruption, mysterious intermittent errors and display problems, or worse — the dreaded BSOD! The Ballistix line of high-performance memory modules features advanced speed grades, low latencies, and integrated aluminum heat spreaders.”

Crucial is a key brand in the Lexar Media family of products. As the Memory Experts™, there the only DRAM supplier that's part of a major memory manufacturer. Lexar Media is a subsidiary of Micron Technology Inc. Crucial has been trying to win the hearts of computer enthusiast for the past 10 years by putting out product lines with good performance, a fair price, good warranties, and some of the best customer service. Not only are they looking out for enthusiast needs there looking out for the common computer user by producing quality OEM parts with the backing of a helpful customer service.

I would like you to notice the 240-pin DIMM because this defines DDR3.You will definitely notice this because if you try putting DDR2 board it’s not going to fit even though the DIMM slots look identical. As each new wave of DIMM technology appears the little notch in the memory moves ever so slightly but keeps the 120 gold pins. Ballistix 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high. If you need to know whether your hardware is compatible with DDR3, just use Crucial’s Memory Advisor™ Tool.

Here are the specifications of the Crucial Ballistix PC3-12800:

  • Module Size: 2GB kit (1GBx2)
  • Package: Ballistix 240-pin DIMM
  • DDR3-1600
  • Feature: DDR3 PC3-12800
  • Specs: DDR3 PC3-12800
  • 8-8-8-24 Timings
  • Unbuffered
  • NON-ECC
  • 1.8V
  • 128Meg x 64
  • EPP 2.0 “SLI Ready”
  • Aluminum Heat spreaders

The packaging is pretty standard with each DIMM in its individual Plastic casing. The two plastic coverings are placed back-to-back and held together by a paper sleeve. The plastic packaging can’t be ripped open by hand because the plastic is mended together and needs to be carefully cut with scissors.

There is little information given on the sleeve or the plastic covering but it does give a brief description of Ballistix Memory on the back.

Here we see the packaging of the Ballistix:
