Kingston 64GB SDXC Class 3 Memory Card & USB 3.0 MobileLite G3 Review

During our visit with Kingston at CES 2014 this year, we had a chance to sit down with them to talk about the new and up-coming flash memory cards that are designed for HD Media use. With the advancing and growing media recording industry, faster and more reliable flash memory cards are on high demand, especially those looking for high capacity to store everything on one card. With the standards of 1080p recording, Ultra HD 2160p and 3D/2K&4K resolutions on the horizon, the number of pixels on recording devices can no longer suffice with the slower and lower capacity memory cards. It has been a couple of months since the initial talk and today we finally got our hands on the Kingston 64GB SDXC Class 3 UHS-I U3 flash memory card. Kingston developed this particular card in three available sizes, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The last one will be the memory card we take a look at today. Kingston was also nice enough to send us the Kingston Mobile Lite G3 SD and Micro-SD card USB 3.0 reader as an extra bonus to be able to test the memory card today. With the speed advancements in the SDXC memory card, we wanted to make sure there are no bottlenecks.

Transcend Jetflash 380G Review

With technology growing, the size of storage has grown too. We constantly need more space for moving larger files from one system to another, but we don’t always have network accessibility. Whether it is movies, music or a system backup, we don't always have cables on hand when it comes to transferring files between computer and your mobile device. Transcend realized not everybody carries cables around, and introduced the Jetflash 380. The Jetflash 380 is available in 16 or 32GB sizes in either silver or gold. ECS KBN-I/5200 AMD A6-5200 Mini-ITX Motherboard Review

AMD's APU series market has really picked up pace over the last few years. The most recent updates to their current road map, included the new FM2+ socket A88X based chipset and the Kaveri Processor. This has really generated a great deal of interest with many of today's budget conscious consumers. However, with no updates to AMD's enthusiast FX series chip road map, AMD's APU series is really the only new technology we are seeing at the moment from its consumer line. With that said, we are excited to see that AMD is starting to put more budget friendly APU technology out in the market and we are going to shed some light on what to expect. Today we are looking at a very new low-budget APU inspired motherboard. It includes the Kabini SoC processor (which runs the Jaguar APU Cores) on a Radeon HD8000 series graphics base, and it does it all in a tight nit space. At the beginning of the year, ECS (Elitegroup Computer Systems) announced this Kabini SoC processing unit which houses an AMD A6-5200 CPU. It also includes a Radeon 8400 GPU all in a small mini-ITX form factor APU combo. Today we got our nitty gritty hands on this tiny power house to put it to the test. We are excited to see what this Quad Core A6-5200 APU can do. Before we jump into the details of the ECS KBN-I/5200 motherboard, lets take a look at ECS (Elitegroup Computer Systems).



Microsoft uses 3DMark to show DirectX 12 benefits

Microsoft shared the first public details of DirectX 12 at GDC yesterday. And I’m delighted that they chose 3DMark 11 to demonstrate the advantages of the new API. In their words, “3DMark [11] on Direct3D 11 uses multi-threading extensively, however due to a combination of runtime and driver overhead, there is still significant idle time on each core. After porting the benchmark to use Direct3D 12, we see two major improvements – a 50% improvement in CPU utilization, and better distribution of work among threads.” The chart shows the time 3DMark 11 spends in each thread in DirectX 11 (top) and DirectX 12 (bottom). This MSDN blog post explains how the efficiencies in DirectX 12 are achieved: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/directx/archive/2014/03/20/directx-12.aspx A new 3DMark test for DirectX 12 With DirectX 12 game developers will be able to create richer scenes with more objects by better utilizing modern GPU hardware. Rapoo 7100P Wireless Mouse review

Computer mice are such odd peripherals. So many variations to suit different personal preferences, resulting in a difficult time trying to guess which one is best for you. Having seen a decent number of mice in my days, suffice it to say I’ve seen both good and bad, and plenty in-between. Particular models become popular amongst users, making a name for themselves, and often taking on the established industry. One of the up-and-coming companies which seems to have a good understanding of what makes a good mouse, is Rapoo. Today we have a chance to review the Rapoo 7100P Wireless Mouse with adjustable DPI. Despite the difference in DPI, the other major difference is that this new product utilizes optical sensors rather than laser internals. This has several pros and cons, which we’ll discuss in more detail, but the overarching point to realize here is you get nearly the same mouse for less money. We’re certainly fans of getting good value, so let’s take a closer look at the Rapoo 7100P and find out if it's really is a bargain.

Razer Designs New Mechanical Keyboard Switches

Razer is all about gaming hype. They proudly boast that their products are “For Gamers, by Gamers.” The problem with hype though, is that it’s usually designed to make people spend more money than they need to. Take phones for example. A new phone every two years can get pricey but cellular companies are trying to diminish that wait so consumers can have a new phone every year! When I heard Razer designed a new keyboard, I smirked a little, and when I saw the video spots, I even laughed. All I can say now is, “I have to have one!’ While the exploding key in the video might have been a little over the top, the features of this keyboard are quite mouth-watering. The actuation point distance of the keys was trimmed, making it faster to press the key, but that’s only the first juicy bit. The really interesting feature is the reset distance. The standard mechanical distance to reset a key is 0.7mm, but the Razer switch is only 0.4mm. Key spam away because this keyboard is going to know the difference between fast clicking and actually holding down the key. The other nice feature is the lifespan, showing around three times the number of keystrokes standard mechanical switches can take before breaking down. To say that I want to own one of these keyboards is an understatement. It’s true that this amount of precision is probably overkill for the standard gamer while e-sport “athletes” will get the most out these features. ...

AMD Announces AM1 Platform, Still No Word for High End

AMD is very proud of their budget lineups. Their APUs make great affordable entertainment or gaming systems, so why not add more range to the budget end? The new AM1 platform will support quad and dual-core APUs. There was some mentions of “Kabini” and “Jaguar” as well as proclamations of these chipsets supporting all the latest and greatest in the Windows world. If these statements seem like they lack enthusiasm, it’s because they do. While there is most likely room for more budget end components, the real problem is AMD still isn’t giving anyone the slightest bone on what they plan for the high end CPU market. In case you didn’t remember, AMD said that their FX series of chips would not get a steamroller update at the end of last year. This is bad news for anyone who builds higher end systems. The FX-8350 was a great chip, especially if you were in the market for an overclocking system, but didn’t want to spend over $1500. The FX-8350 combined with an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z Motherboard would cost just over $400, but gives you tons of overclocking potential so you could spend your dollars on more high end cooling systems. True, this only applies to those enthusiasts who live for overclocking, but then again, this is an overclocking website and we here at PureOverclock believe in overclocking. Biostar Hi-Fi B85N-3D Motherboard Review

Biostar has been in the motherboard business since the early 80's. While they were not always the preferred brand that enthusiasts turn to, they have definitely improved in this arena in the last few years. We saw a big improvement in their motherboard sector with the Z77 chipset launch. Now that Biostar has had this chance to improve today's newer chipset, we are going to be looking at a budget friendly chipset on the B85N-3D motherboard. This motherboard was developed on the mini-ITX platform, and, while this isn't Biostar's flagship motherboard, we are here today to put this Small Form Factor (SFF) motherboard to the test.
