HyperX Savage DDR3 Memory Review (HX318C9SRK2/16)

Introduction Over the last few years, the HyperX…a division of Kingston Technologies has increased its product line and today we add a new addition to the memory category. HyperX introduced to us the Fury series last year which offered great speeds for its entry level gaming memory and received great feedback for the awesome bang for your buck performance to value. With the success of the Fury line up, today we are going to introduce to you the new Savage series that will replace its existing Genesis series. HyperX Savage has been designed to fit the middle playing ground of bang for your buck and top performing memory. The Savage memory line offers speed of up to 2400MHz speeds and various size configurations from 4GB to 32GB kits. The kit we have at hand today is the Savage HX318C9SRK2/16. This is 2x8GB sticks of 1866MHz of aesthetically pleasing memory. While the Savage series was not designed to be your best of the best performers, it is designed to fit that good middle ground. The Savage sits nicely between HyperX’s Fury and its Predator line up. NZXT DOKO Review

Introduction During CES 2015 this year, NZXT show-cased the DOKO PC Anywhere device. Now this is a product we are not used to seeing from NZXT. They are primarily known for their PC chassis, cooling and accessories line up. But from what we saw during the CES show, we were quite impressed with what this new product offers. One thing that came up in our conversation was why is this portable PC named DOKO? As NZXT explained to us… the word DOKO comes from the Japanese dictionary and means “Where.” So DOKO or “Where” is a device that let’s you take your PC Anywhere in your home or office. In our minds, the first thought was, it’s like the software PC Anywhere…. The NZXT DOKO pretty much does just that, but in a more simplified and easy form factor. Today, we are going to break down the DOKO device and walk with you step by step on how easy it is to use. We will also cover what its capabilities are, including its its limitations and compatibility. Before we do here’s a word from NZXT. Our People React, adapt and be fearless – we’re a group of young people who aspire to be better tomorrow than we are today. We are driven by the yearning to explore, create, change, and push boundaries. Our culture revolves around having a passion to walk off the well-beaten path, and turn away from the status quo. Our Company Avant-garde and unconventional – NZXT as created because we aspire to make a positive difference for people. ...

Noctua NH-D9L and NH-U9S CPU Cooler Review

Introduction Noctua… When we hear the name Noctua, the first thing that normally comes to mind is the color brown. We all recognize this color as Noctua’s trademark design for its fans. However, we also have come to know that Noctua holds a strong place in the CPU air cooling category. The popular NH-D14 and NH-D15 model CPU Coolers are some of the top performing units available, and hang in there even with some of today’s top performing all in one water cooling units. But if you know anything about those monster heatsinks, they are massive in size and for anyone looking to fit them into smaller, more compact chassis, that is out of the question. It turns out that Noctua does offer a wide range of smaller coolers that can fit those needs, but you do sacrifice some performance due the smaller design. Today, we are going to be look at a 2 new coolers by Noctua that are meant to replicate its popular D15 twin tower design and a new single tower platform. If we have learned anything from Noctua’s quality and performance, we can probably expect to see the same great results, but we are gonna put these to the test and find out. So with that said, we proudly introduce the Noctua NH-U9S and the NH-D9L CPU Air Coolers. Before we move into the details of both coolers, let’s talk a little bit about who Noctua is: “Noctua comes from a cooperation of the Austrian Rascom Computerdistribution Ges.m.b.H. with the Taiwanese cooling specialist Kolink In...

Winter-Season-With-Happy-Holiday-

A Season’s Thought from Pureoverclock

The holidays have become a very controversial time in the past years. We deal with shrugging off Santa Claus because he isn’t real, we watch schisms being formed because of hotly contested religious themes and complain about how consumerism has ruined Christmas. Amidst the misery that becomes the holidays, many of us can sit around just waiting for it to be over. Maybe we would be better off without the holidays? I’ve heard a lot of negativity this time of year. Everyone seems too busy. Everyone seems to be annoyed about one thing or another being pushed down their throat. Everyone seems to be financially strapped. I look around and I have nothing but pity for those who have so many problems to go through during this time of year. I began thinking about everything I’ve ran across this season and I felt a well of depression. What happened to the days of old, when I was a child, when this time of year was happy and magical? As I thought on it more, I began to realize that the problem was not so much with the world around me, but with the heart inside of me. Since I have small spheres of influence and can only do so much as one person, I felt the least I could do is try and bring some encouragement to my friends at Pureoverclock. Why do we believe in Santa Claus? I don’t expect you to believe in a jolly fat man that lives in the North Pole, but I do believe in the ideal of bringing a better life to those unfortunate souls who can not bring one to th...

ASUS X99 Rampage V Extreme Motherboard Review

Introduction   When it comes to the gods of ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) motherboards, we can only think of one right of the top of our heads. The Rampage Series takes the lead in many categories in terms of performance and stability, and with the newest X99 chipset from Intel, ASUS made no exception with the ASUS Rampage V Extreme motherboard this time around. Over the last decade, ASUS’ Rampage Extreme Series motherboards have taken popularity by storm and give you the reputation of great overclocking stability, and all the while being among the top performing motherboards in the industry. Today, we have a chance to put its newest edition to the test and see if ASUS can remain at the top of the list. While performance is one arena we look at, the aesthetics from the Rampage Series have always remained appealing and its red and black theme follows suit with its traditional colors. While this theme is well known in the industry, in our opinion it’s a little played out but we can’t argue that it’s pretty darn sexy at the same time.   So without going into too much detail, let’s dive in and take a look at a full in depth view of the ASUS Rampage V Extreme paired with our Intel 5930K. But before we do that, let’s here a word from ASUS. Origin of the Name “Asus” ASUS comes from the last four letters of Pegasus, the winged horse in Greek mythology that represents the inspiration of art and learning. ASUS embodies the strength, ...

Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4 Motherboard Review

Introduction When it comes to Intel’s Extreme or “Enthusiast” series of motherboards and processors, like the X79 and its Ivy-Bridge-E combo, we seem to get a bit more time between updates. Intel initially launched its X79 Chipset with Sandy-Bridge-E, then 18 months later Ivy-Bridge-E hit store shelves without a major Chipset change. Unlike its mainstream Z series Chipset, which has seen updates almost every 12 months or so (give or take a few months), the X79 chipset is roughly 3 years old now. Today we have the new X99 Chipset which promises a large improvement over its predecessor X79. With the rise of DDR4 memory and demand for faster and larger bandwidth capabilities, it was only a matter of time. As we dig a little deeper today, we will talk a little more about this Chipset later. Along with the new Chipset comes a newly released processor refresh. The X99 Chipset has made some other improvements which now allow users to sport the new Intel Haswell-E Processor. This CPU starts with a 6core for the HT 5820K, 6core for the HT 5930K, and lastly an 8core for the HT 5960X with a Socket 2011-3. Of course with these changes, it has pre-empted the design of new motherboards, so we now have the chance to put the Gigabyte X99-UD4 motherboard to the test and see if the improvements are going to be worth the upgrade.   In recent years, Gigabyte has grown to be one of the most recommended brands. The reputation of great performance to value has put them on ...
