In Win 301 Gaming Case Review

Introduction Building computers is a work of progress. Most of us are happy if our first system turns on and we can successfully install Windows on it. After that we start finding ways to make Windows run smoother, cut the tearing/stuttering out of our gaming, make our cables look prettier, and even risk voiding warranties to overclock our parts for more performance. This is what we can consider the final stages of performance. However, if you’re really into building a PC for the sheer fun of building it, there’s a whole new level that makes a custom PC an entirely different experience. Most of our reviews focus on the straightforward attributes of a component’s ease of use, value, and performance. That frame of mind makes it very easy to give a recommendation on the majority of parts out there, but some companies force the reviewer to change their perspective entirely and gauge a product on a whole new level. That’s what In Win is going to do to us today. Sure, we’re not going to forget the practical aspects of this case, but we also have to consider the “Art” level of the design. This is the ultimate stage where a system becomes more than a high performance machine, but also represents a work of art reflecting the builder’s personal taste. In Win lives here and we’ll soon figure out how well the 301 Chassis fits into that level, right after taking a quick look at the values of this company. IN-WIN Development Inc., ...

Rosewill Neon K51 and Neon M57 Review

Introduction Everyone has different priorities for their PC build: Power, silence, size, comfort, lighting, cheap as possible, etc. When you are on a budget, some part of your build is going to suffer. Great power; you sit on the floor. Huge monitor; graphics card tops out at 30 fps. Lots of RGB lighting; keyboard and mouse from the 90’s. This review is for the latter. If you’ve shopped for an RGB keyboard recently, your options are $150+ mechanical or $50 fixed color membrane. Good news! Rosewill built something bright, colorful and affordable. They’ve also built a mouse with RGB as well, though affordable RGB mice have stiffer competition. However, should you buy them? Let’s find out. First, a bit about Rosewill: Rosewill’s mission is to consistently deliver reliable, high quality PC gaming, IT hardware and home products through leading innovation and long-lasting relationships. Rosewill Inc. was established in 2004, founded by manufacturing reliable, high-quality technology products. The first products under the Rosewill brand name included computer components such as computer cases, power supply units, keyboards, mice and cables. Over time, the product line strategically developed and entered new areas of growth, including PC gaming and home products. Under the management of experienced e-retail experts, Rosewill products can be found on all top e-commerce sites, along with product information and reviews. Today, Rosewill currently manuf...

FSP CMT210 Computer Case Review

Introduction The gaming mouse industry has been overrun with competition for quite some time now. That doesn’t surprise me, but I am starting to get a little surprised at how many budget cases are being introduced into the market. It seems like computer building is a pretty niche market, but on second thought, the idea that there’s a surge of prospective buyers in the $50 range makes a lot of sense. If you’re new to PC building, you’ve probably allocated a large amount of budget to other components and if you’re just looking to upgrade, pre-built system cases can have serious space limitations. FSP has traditionally been known for power supplies, but they’ve decided to enter the budget case arena with their CMT210 mid-tower chassis. Call me a sucker for punishment, but I still want to find that budget tower that really hits all the marks I think a budget case should hit. We’ll dive into the chassis soon enough, but first let’s take a look at a bit of info from FSP. Since 1993, based on its professional R&D expertise, enormous production capacity and high Quality Assurance, FSP has achieved an important position in the challenging IT industry. To strengthen the brand image and to provide better service to our customers, FSP built its own brand in 2003. FSP has a good understanding of customer needs, which includes providing products of high quality and reliability, after-sales service and continuous development of new pro...

Enermax NEOChanger RGB Reservoir and Pump Combo Review

Introduction This was it. The moment I’ve been waiting for from the first day I joined PureOC. I took the res out of the box, grabbed a fitting, and gently screwed it into the port…..OH MY GOODNESS! That was my last moment to turn back and be a normal computer user. From this moment on, I can only imagine making even better custom cooling loops in the future. The look of a new XSPC fitting inside the Enermax NEOChanger brought new levels of joy that reminded me of my very first PC build, then I bent the edges of the next fitting by screwing it in a bit too tightly and knew that the experience was just like my first computer build. Enough about me, though. Let’s get into this beautiful looking piece of hardware from Enermax. I think their designers have pointedly found pieces of hardware that don’t represent RGB LED enough and decided to fix the problem themselves. I absolutely love them for this! Here at PureOC, it started with the NEOllusion and continues today with the NEOChanger. How will Enermax fair in the custom cooling arena? We’ll find out right after a brief word about the company. Lepatek Corporation an ENERMAX Company is an exclusive authorized supplier for ENERMAX and LEPA brand products for both North America and South America. Lepatek Corporation strives to provide only high quality products within the Computer Hardware & Components and Consumer Electronics market. Both manufacturers specialize in high-end computer componen...

NZXT Kraken G12 Video Card Cooling Bracket Review

Introduction Liquid cooling is all the rage with these kids today, but back in my day…. Ah who am I kidding? I’ve mostly experienced the ease and simplicity of CLC units myself. While I firmly believe that aluminum rads and integrated pumps have their clear performance limits, CLCs offer a simple, yet fairly safe alternative to air cooling while giving consumers a huge variety in aesthetic design. The only problem is that these units have primarily catered to cooling the CPU. NZXT is trying to change that with their Kraken G12 cooling bracket. Even though it isn’t a full closed loop cooler, it’s supposed to easily adapt the Kraken (an other) coolers to be used on a graphics card instead of your CPU. The concept is great and I suspect we’re getting closer to an age where extra cooling isn’t going to net near as much of a benefit on a 95W CPU as it is on a massive 300W GPU. Before we move on, let’s take a quick look at NZXT’s company values. 13 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL SERVICE CORE VALUES These are the principles that inspire our creativity, drive our decision-making, and guide us in bringing you the best PC gaming products possible. PURSUE PASSION WE ARE A COMPANY OF GAMERS CREATING THE BEST PRODUCTS FOR GAMERS. REVEL IN THAT. FOSTER COMMUNITY WORK AMONG FRIENDS. LISTEN TO AND SUPPORT OUR USERS. BOTH ENSURE OUR CONTINUED SUCCESS. DEMONSTRATE COURAGE GO BEYOND WHAT’S EXPECTED. DO NOT COMPROMISE OR FEAR MAKING MISTAKES. BE HUMBLE...

Lamptron Flexlight Multi Simple and Multi Programmable RGB LED Strips Review

Introduction What is the point of filling a computer with the fanciest of technological achievement if a random passerby can’t view the inside of your case? Windows do nothing if the room isn’t well lit. The solution? LIGHTS! *crackling knees* Back in my day we used cathode case lights to brighten up our insides, with ONE color! But this is the future, and we have rainbows. Lamptron has bright and colorful LEDs to fill your darkened spaces in your PC cases. How do they perform? Let’s find out. First we’ll shed some light on the company: Lamptron develops and markets the next generation of high performance computer peripherals using the latest technology that enables a new level of interaction between the end-user and their personal computer. Quick, simple, I like it. Time to find out if it’s true.

MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X Video Card Review

Introduction Wow! It feels like the hardware landscape is full of yin and yang. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a light or dark side, but there seems to be several instances of competitive battles being fought by only two sides. I’ll let you decide if Nvidia is yin or yang in this case, but we’re bringing that big green logo into the spotlight for a review of their GTX 1060. Once again, this is a card targeting mid-range budgets, but the effort to bring high quality gameplay to the masses feels a bit stronger in recent years than it has in the past. We’ll have to see how Nvidia stacks up here soon. Nvidia may be targeting the mid range budget, but you wouldn’t know based on what MSI is doing with their design of the GTX 1060. The Gaming X looks like it takes the card to almost top-tier levels of design and quality before we even get to turn a PC on. I suppose that it could all be flare and the actual build quality could be less than it appears, but I seriously doubt that will be the case. I’ve owned a couple of MSI cards in the past that I really enjoyed so it will be great to see if MSI lives up to their reputation of the past and the internet. As a world leading gaming brand, MSI keeps raising the bar in design and innovation of its GAMING Series products and has been a long-term sponsor of global eSports teams. Outstanding teamwork of MSI’s senior R&D staff and professional gamers culminates in the creation of every MSI GAMIN...

Aorus Radeon RX 580 & 570 Review

Introduction It’s time to get back into the graphics foray and we have the perfect head-to-head match up to start it. While top-of-the-line cards are great to drool over, the vast majority of users are squarely in a budget realm when shopping for a GPU upgrade (more on that in the conclusion, however). AMD decided to focus more on this sector of buyers when they released Polaris, the GPU found in their flagship RX 400 and 500 series cards. Needless to say, we need to see how they measure up in gaming performance to see if Radeon is succeeding in this bracket. We also have to point out another new thing that’s happened with Polaris. Gigabyte has been doing graphics cards for a while, but they recently switched a lot of their gaming components to their Aorus branding. It started with motherboards and Nvidia based GPUs, but now they’ve include the RX 500 series with the Aorus line as well. I’ve been a huge fan of the new designs under Aorus so let’s find out if their GPUs hold up just as well. GIGABYTE shares the same passion for gaming as all gamers. Therefore we have extended the premium gaming brand – AORUS, the pinnacle of our hardware excellence, to provide a full spectrum of innovative gaming products that deliver the ultimate performance and exemplify PC’s capability of bringing gamers unprecedented delights. We continue to participate in global gaming events, connect with the community and actively listening to gamers’ desires in ...

QuadraClicks RBT (Right ‘Bove Touch) Gaming Mouse Review

Introduction They say you can’t reinvent the wheel, but that doesn’t stop car companies from doing something to make you think you need to buy a new rims or tires. Computer mice are in a similar position. While we have come a long way from the old trackball style of mice we used to have, today it feels like most new designs are built around gimmicks to sell more units. So when I say you should definitely take notice of the unit we have in review today, I understand why you might think it’s a gimmick, but I can assure there is way more going on with the original RBT Rebel than meets the eye. During my trip to CES last January, I got a little time to wander the show floors and see what I would randomly run across. I saw the RBT (pronounced “Rabbit”), put my hand on it, and figured it was a gimmick, but the designer saw me and stopped me before I could walk away. He explained what he had and while I wasn’t convinced, I decided to sit down and see if I could understand what he was saying. After trying the design out, it was beginning to dawn on me how this could be a huge benefit for gamers. The RBT on review is a prototype and while QuadraClicks, the company behind the design, is still in its fundraising stages, they’ve already raised over 100% of their goal to kick off the project. This review will be pretty straight forward because there isn’t a ton of details to go over until the product officially launches later this year, b...

Cougar Armor Gaming Chair Review

Introduction A gamer who doesn’t sit on their butt for hours at a time is scarcely a gamer at all. It’s at least true today, as the arcades have gone the way of… I don’t know, MySpace? They exist, but not like they did in their prime. If you want to play a game, you’ll likely want to sit. If you want to sit for hours without those post-game pains, you’re going to want a better than average chair. You might even want the Cougar Armor Gaming Chair. Let’s find out.   Real Gear for Real Gamers Created in 2007 by a group of engineers, COUGAR has been devoted since its first day to a single objective: to endow every single product with a superb quality, a rich functionality and a distinctive design. This aspiration moved us during our first years in the PC case, PSU and fan market. Our efforts bore their fruits in the form of user satisfaction, many praising reviews and prestigious design awards such as the 2010 design & innovation award, organized by iF at Computex Taipei 2010. After several years of success with our first products, we decided to enter the gaming gear market. The reason for this was our long-term dissatisfaction with the state of things in the areas of gaming mice, keyboards and headsets. The market was flooded with poor quality products, gimmicks presented as “gaming functions” and either boring or childish designs. Since all of us are gamers, it was hard for us not to feel that we had not only the power, but ...

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X and 1500X CPU Review

Introduction AMD has officially shaken up the CPU market in a great way with Ryzen. While I know some of you wanted to see Intel brought to their knees with every single benchmark, the reality is we now have a clear picture of what the strengths and weaknesses are in the industry. Single-thread performance has certainly improved well over the past 5 years, but quality measures and multi-threaded ceilings needed a shot in the arm. The Ryzen 7 series does an amazing job of opening up professional performance to a wider audience of PC buyers. That leaves us answering the question of exactly how Ryzen 5 fits in the market. In fact, we’re only going to worry about tackling that question in this review. I’ve been squeezing everything I can in trying to complete review content, but life is catching up with me and I have to slow my pace down slightly. There’s just too many fun things to test and not enough time to do it, at least in fast of a time frame as I would like. While this focus will be on Ryzen 5 performance, I’ll be adding two more reviews down the road with one focusing solely on the newly designed Wraith Coolers performance and another focused entirely on overclocking guides and performance for the Ryzen 7 and 5 lineups. Let’s begin with a look into the philosophy behind AMD’s CPU designs, then we’ll start looking at the details of the 1600X and 1500X.

Rosewill Cullinan Tempered Glass PC Case Review

Introduction It never ceases to amaze me what researching a Rosewill product name leads me to discover. It turns out the Cullinan Diamond is the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found. The name makes a ton of sense when you relate that to a case with three tempered glass panels. Shortly after, it dawned on me that the choice to use Cullen as the last name of the vampire family in Twilight might have a correlation as well. The brief moment of excitement was immediately followed by thoughts that I might have ruined the Cullinan name for myself! On the plus side, the name Cullinan has been around a lot longer than Twilight so I think we can forget about the latter correlation. Rosewill’s newer design is supposed to remind us of the beauty of a diamond and based on all the images I’ve seen leading to this point, I don’t believe there could be a more fitting name. We’ll be taking a thorough look at the case soon enough, but let’s take a moment to see Rosewill’s company values again. Rosewill’s mission is to consistently deliver reliable, high quality PC gaming, IT hardware and home products through leading innovation and long-lasting relationships. Rosewill Inc. was established in 2004, founded by manufacturing reliable, high-quality technology products. The first products under the Rosewill brand name included computer components such as computer cases, power supply units, keyboards, mice and cables. Over time, the product line str...

MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon Motherboard Review

Introduction This is it! Right here is the last piece of hardware that I received as a result from my trip to CES back in January. It only took me four months, but that’s the inadvertent side effect of being the solo act for a bit. The good news is it looks like those days are about to be behind me, with new content trickling in from fresh and familiar faces. But enough about me, let’s talk about MSI. We truly live in a golden age of computer hardware. It wasn’t too many years ago that only one motherboard manufacturer stood out as the go-to company for top performance motherboards. Today, I can think of three or four really great companies that all compete for being the best in their own particular ways. MSI is one of those companies. Quality, performance and competitive pricing makes this company a clear contender when shopping for a new motherboard, but we’ll need to flesh out the full details of the Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon to determine if this is the board you should have for your Kaby Lake build. We’ll do that soon enough, but let’s first look at a statement from MSI, especially since it’s been a while since we’ve covered one of their products. (Shame on us!) MSI Vision Profile As a world leading gaming brand, MSI’s goal is to become the most trusted name in gaming and e-sport. We’ve dedicated countless hours and committed numerous resources to the eSports community to support the world’s most aspiring ...

Rosewill Valens 600M PSU Review

Introduction Budget PSUs are a bit of a conundrum. The power supply is the heartbeat of your PC so it would make sense that if you want to keep your parts alive, you should get the best unit you possibly can. On the other hand, building a PC within a certain budget can be extremely hard when you want to reach a particular level of performance. Rosewill is the go-to company when you need something in a budget, but that doesn’t answer whether you should use a budget PSU in your system or not. Let’s take a look at the Valens series of PSUs since there’s a good chance that we can balance out the best practices of staying in a budget, while also keeping our expensive equipment as safe as reasonably possible. Before that, let’s take another look at who Rosewill is. Rosewill’s mission is to consistently deliver reliable, high quality PC gaming, IT hardware and home products through leading innovation and long-lasting relationships. Rosewill Inc. was established in 2004, founded by manufacturing reliable, high-quality technology products.
