Introduction
There have been several new motherboards hitting the shelves recently, from both the Intel and AMD camps, notably the P55 and 890GX chipsets, respectively. These have garnered much of the attention lately, overshadowing Intel's flagship X58 platform. The big brother to the P55, the LGA1366 socket X58 has been lagging behind in terms of new features that have been implemented in the other chipsets, specifically USB 3.0 and SATA III 6Gb/s.

Often seen as trailblazers, ASUS has released the P6X58D Premium in response, currently their only board that features USB 3.0 and SATA III, as well as being ready for the upcoming 32nm 6-Core processors. The P6X58D appears to be an evolution of the vaunted ASUS P6T, not only with a new colour scheme but also several other design and functional improvements. Indeed, the P6X68D Premium is positioned to be the successor to the P6T going forward in the ASUS product lineup.

Let's take at a closer look at some of these new features and see if the P6X58D Premium can successfully continue to evolve and improve the LGA1366 platform.
