ATI's Radeon 5670 has been out for a little while now, and has shown some great promise as a mainstream gaming card for people who may not have a need or budget for a 5800 series card. Most cards are reference design, but PowerColor has released their PCS+ 5670 that offers a modest factory overclock, along with a custom heatsink and different memory chips. Certainly not a bad combination for a card that retails for about $100 USD; in fact, it's a great combination that's just begging to be overclocked. For those who are less inclined to push things, we still think there's some great value to be found here; we love cool, quiet, and affordable.
The PowerColor PCS+ 5670 512MB may be a mainstream gaming card, lower on the performance ladder than its larger 5700 and 5800 siblings, but looks to offer some respectable gaming performance at a great price. Clearly geared to consumers who occasionally do some light gaming, and particularly at 1280 resolution, the PCS+ 5670 is a small card that is designed to be frugal in terms of power consumption, and to run cool and quiet, offering a good upgrade option for people on a budget or perhaps those with an older system looking to easily improve their graphics performance.
We know that 1GB of memory isn't really necessary at lower resolutions, so don't be fooled by claims that bigger is better. In this case, it's not. Having 512MB of GDDR5 is plenty, so the PCS+ 5670 looks to jump into a competitive market segment with some impressive features, so let's take a closer look at the PowerColor PCS+ 5670 512MB and find out how it stacks up.
