Introduction
Powerhouse CPU coolers may be all the rage these days in the quest for performance supremacy, but there is a distinct need and interest in the market for smaller and more compact coolers that can still get the job done effectively and inexpensively. And that is part of the key distinction here, as quality products that are affordable are a rather rare breed.

On the test bench today is the GELID Solutions Silent Spirit, a smaller CPU cooler that comes from two industry veterans that have launched their own company and new lineup. GELID Solutions is probably a name you're not very familiar with, as they are a Hong Kong based company with Swiss Management and founded very recently in 2008 by Gebhard Scherrer and VC Tran. Both have worked in the PC Cooling industry for a number of years and successfully built up an  IT company with their expertise.  You may recognize VC's name as the worldwide marketing director for Arctic Cooling, a respected name in the industry, while Gebhard was the co-founder of Arctic Cooling. It's probably not surprise then, that the guy who created the PWM fans at Arctic Cooling has brought his knowledge to GELID Solutions and now implemented the same function in the Silent Spirit.

So here we have a new company with a wealth of experience, looking to make a big splash in the world of cooling with their first CPU cooler; no small feat. And while GELID Solutions is probably a bit more well known for their silent fans, their Silent Spirit CPU cooler is their latest foray into the market. To be honest, with a management pedigree like this behind GELID Solutions, I do have some high expectations today and am looking forward to this.

Our thanks go to our friends at GELID Solutions for supplying the review samples.
