Zalman VF700-CU LED

The VF700-Cu LED comes with the cooler, the fixing mechanism and 8 heatsinks for memory. As you can see on the box, Quiet PC were kinda enough to send this sample for review.

The fan is a clear plastic 75mm design that spins at 1350 rpm in 5V mode and 2650 rpm at 12V. It has blue LED’s and when running, looks very nice indeed. The open finned design allows air to flow freely and ensures there will never be warm air trapped by the fans rotational pressure. The copper fins are extremely thin, of which you’ll see better in the later image.

Zalman supply a small fan controller with two of the headers running at 5V and the other two at standard 12V. You’ll need to choose one of these for the VF700’s fan, but the other three could be used for case fans if you choose. You also get 8 memory heatsinks and some thermal paste.

From the top you can clearly see how thin the fins are (try saying that ten times). It’s a very delicate cooler and you should really handle it with care. As already noted, the fan doesn’t connect to the graphics board and instead will connect to the fan controller which in turn should be connected to a standard 4 pin molex. This I fear is a mistake and I’ll explain why later.

Here’s a close up shot of what’s under the fan, and also another opportunity to see how delicate the construction is.

The build quality is simply first rate. The base is lapped to a fine finish and there simply isn’t a rough edge in site. If you like aesthetics, this is the cooler for you. If you think of Arctic Cooling’s approach, this is the opposite. Finesse is the name of the game here.

The memory heatsink and basic, but because of the VF700’s design gets active cooling from the 75mm fan.
