G.Skill offer a life time warranty with all there memory products, though this has pretty much become the industry standard amongst the top memory manufacturers. The official specification is rated for PC3200 speeds at 2-3-2-5 timings and 2.6v. This is almost as good as it gets at these speeds and for the money it’s very attractive. If you don’t overclock and want some memory to run PC3200 speeds these are a bargain at the price. The key purchase reason for us though, is how these overclock.
It appears that G.Skill has joined everyone else in providing heat spreader. It’s now well known that people actually expect heat spreaders on there modules, and may not choose a memory product without them, so we will just have to accept that the laymen has won this round and simply live with ‘em. Just like the FC series from G.skill reviewed a few months back, the heat spreaders are lightweight, most likely aluminium and have a funky colour scheme. They don’t look too bad actually, but considering that market research suggests people expect heat spreaders because they look cool, you’d think they would make them look really “bad-ass” and not sky blue. Still, they certainly are recognisable as the ZX range, that’s for sure and have a nice quality look to them.
The memory chips used in ZX are a mystery and G.Skill’s contract with the chip producer means they cannot disclose what they are using. I’ve had a tough time tracking down what they are using and so unfortunately I can’t tell you what’s under the bonnet. Still, we’ll see how these overclock shortly.
