Introduction
With Intel’s X58 chipset still remaining rather popular among consumers, the LGA1366 socket has proven to have some staying power. And rather than waiting for it to become a limp noodle, motherboard manufacturers have been releasing some refresh products, and even a few with considerable more bang than the first generation boards.

MSI has done exactly that, releasing the aptly-named Big Bang XPower motherboard, and it looks to be something special. Not only does it sport USB 3.0 and SATA 6G, it also comes with six, yes SIX, PCI Express slots. Looking to build a monster Folding @ Home rig? This may be the board for you. MSI has fashioned this board for enthusiasts, as it's built with some military-grade components that are designed to help keep the board surviving harsh extreme overclocking sessions. Toss in MSI's OC Genie for some auto overclocking that takes about as long to boost your rig as a trip to the fridge, and you've got an awfully nice setup so far.

Perhaps most significantly, however, is its price: currently retailing for $300, the Big Bang XPower is a helluva deal for a board with that many slots, a boatload of features, and some great aesthetics to boot. With an impressive pedigree, the Big Bang XPower looks great, offers robust features, and comes with a very reasonable price tag to boot, so we have high expectations today. What's the key ingredient here that isn't mentioned? Performance. Around here, Performance is King, so we dropped in a 980X hex-core chip and some sub-zero cooling to find out just how well it can go.

Founded in August 1986, MSI has continued to uphold a business philosophy that stresses "Award-winning product quality and outstanding customer service. MSI specializes in the design and manufacture of motherboards, graphics card, add-on cards, servers/workstations, iPC, barebones, communication devices, CE products, Notebooks, car infotainment products, and All-in-One PC. "Quality Products Create Faithful Customers" is a motto that guides all that we do at MSI. For this reason, MSI goes all out to be the best of the best in research and development.
