With so many choices in the USB drive market, finding one that suits your needs and preferences might be difficult. Ease of use is paramount, and performance is also a top consideration for most people. The Xigmatek Lighter is extremely easy to use, the epitome of plug and play. Just insert the USB cable and away you go.

Housed in a very sleek and small package, the Lighter offers a sturdy, durable, and very portable method of data transfer. The included leather pouch is a very nice touch by Xigmatek, and the Lighter will easily fit into a pocket without being intrusive at all.

The performance results here are a bit disappointing, with the Read speeds lower than we’d normally see in an external USB drive. The Write speeds are very respectable, matching the Read results across the board, and while this is encouraging for write-to operations, the read-from operations are nothing to brag about. It would take quite some time to write a large amount of data to the 60GB Lighter, though presumably you’d be doing this a bit at a time rather than 60GB all at once.

Retailing for about $60 USD (we found it for $40 after rebate), the Xigmatek Lighter 60GB is considerably more affordable than the performance-based flash drives that carry a price tag of more than double. The tradeoff here is that the Lighter is indeed slower and larger as a result, so how much that’s worth depends on your preference and particular situation. While the Xigmatek Lighter isn’t blazingly fast, it is very portable and sleek, and comes with a very attractive price tag for the storage capacity.
