Temperatures and Power Consumption

TEMPERATURES

To test temperatures, we fire up FurMark and let it run for awhile until the temperatures level out. FurMark pushes GPU thermal loads extremely high, and can be considered a worst-case scenario. We’ve had to slightly tweak our testing methodology since the GTX 570 employs a "limiter" that throttle back temperatures under extreme load such as FurMark. Consequently, we include results with, and without, the limiter engaged.

Below are the FurMark "worst case" results:

Temperatures

Pretty good. The custom heatsink on the XXX card is doing a nice job, running 2°C cooler than the reference design at load. While that is not a huge improvement, the lower noise levels are significant. So not only is the XXX card running a bit cooler but it’s extremely quiet, whereas the reference design sounds like a hair dryer by comparison. Maintaining a cool and quiet profile on a graphics card is no easy task, but XFX has absolutely nailed it here.

POWER CONSUMPTION

We create a baseline power draw without a graphics card installed. After a graphics card is installed, we let the system sit idle in Window for 10 minutes and then run FurMark for maximum power draw. The difference gives us the power consumption for the card. The results below are for the graphics card only. As with the temperature testing, we report results for the Nvidia 570 with, and without, the limiter engaged.

Power Consumption

Here we see the XXX card faring well against the competition, slightly higher than the reference design but showing better power consumption than the GTX 570 when its limiter is engaged.
