Introduction

AMD’s 6950 cards are positioned to battle Nvidia’s lineup between the GTX 570 and 560 Ti, and while we’ve seen the reference 6950 cards offer some impressive horsepower, they’ve not been without a few downsides: temperature, noise, and cost competitiveness. However, with custom design solutions hitting the market, this brings us to the topic of today’s discussion: the XFX Radeon 6950 XXX 1GB.

Sporting a custom heatsink that promises lower temperatures and noise, the XFX 6950 XXX 1GB also sheds half the memory from the reference 2GB version, but comes with higher clock speeds to compensate. But is it enough to keep pace with its more well-equipped sibling? Let’s jump in and find out.
