Introduction

Solid State Drives (SSDs) are starting to see price drops into the "reasonable" realm, though they haven’t quite hit mainstream levels for widespread adoption just yet. SSDs still remain rather expensive overall, but the performance increases are a very attractive lure, particularly to enthusiasts.  However, not all SSDs are created equal; there is a wide range of performance available on the market.

We’ve seen several SSDs that feature the Indilinx ‘Barefoot" controller and Transcend’s Ultra is another such multi-layer SSD, so we know it’s going to be very fast. The question is how does it stack up against some other popular SSDs on the market? Today we’ll pit it against some of the fastest traditional hard disk drives and SSDs to find out.

Thanks go to our friends at Transcend for supplying the review sample.
