Introduction

GeIL has long been known for their memory modules and they are not sitting still. At CeBIT 2010 earlier this year the GeIL booth unveiled their newest adventure; the Thortech Thunderbolt Series of Power Supplies. The Thortech power supply subsidiary is not going to bring us any OEM builds with new fancy stickers stuck on them, no sir, Thortech is GeIL’s all new line and will be developed in house.

Thortech has set their goals and standards pretty high and is planning models rated up to 1400W and they will all ship with the 80Plus GOLD certification. This is very impressive in deed since some manufacturers are struggling to achieve the GOLD standard. Thortech is working diligently to achieve the Platinum rating which is even more difficult to achieve and demands over 90% efficiency regardless of the load.

Thortech currently will be offering power supplies in two breeds; the Thunderbolt and the Thunderbolt Plus. The Plus will be the higher end units with an 800W, 1000W, and a 1200W model and we understand that there will also be a 1400W. All of the Plus units have a single 12V rail and modular cables, temperature controlled 135mm fan to keep them cool with minimum noise and are specified to handle maximum output at a temperature of 50°C. The Plus models come with Thortech iPower meter which will be talking about in this review.

Let’s take a closer look.

If Thor is the God of Power, then Thortech should be considered the God of Power Supplies. Thortech is determined to bring to the market only the best blend of performance, efficiency, technology and value of Power Supply brand and products. Thortech Power’s R&D team has experience in designing innovative industrial level power supplies for over 15 years; such experience will be transferred to make first grade consumer level power supplies with high yield rate of 80Plus Gold level or higher efficiency performance. All of Thortech Power Supply products will carry a five year warranty and service policy to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction. Computex 2010 brings the first chapter of Thortech Power in the power supply industrial history and it is just the beginning. Everyone at Thortech is ready to continue writing chapter after chapter of successful stories with you. “Thortech throws nothing but power”.
