There is much to be said about the European engineering and design as the PH-TC12DX beats coolers twice its size. The TC12DX is available in standard white, as well as optional black, red and blue. It is backed with a five year warranty, which also says a lot about the company and the build quality we have come to expect. The performance of the Phanteks PH-TC12DX surprised me to say the least, as I was really shocked. It exceeded all my expectations for a mid-size cooler.
The temperatures maintained during my testing of the PH-TC12DX after 12 minutes of running at 100% load remained within the processor’s thermal limits. For a mid-size cooler that doesn’t take up much room, it was a remarkable feat. Phanteks has a sure winner on its hands with the side by side dual tower design of the PH-TC12DX. I am actually very impressed with not only the design and build quality of this mid-size cooler, but also the fact that its two PWM fans at stock settings were barely audible.
Installation was very simple and straight-forward. The SoliSku mounting kit is a real pleasure to work with and made for a quick Installation. The lock down to the back plate was very solid and secure. If I had to nitpick, it would be that there was not a back plate for your AMD installation included. Hence the reference to use the stock or OEM back plate that comes with your MB. It presents you with a small inconvenience during your tower mount on an AMD setup, which basically means just a few minutes more to complete your lock down correctly and securely.
I have to sum things up by saying the Phanteks PH-TC12DX has unbelievably great performance for the low price of $59.99 US. This cooler has now moved to the top of my list with some of the best performing coolers at this size and price point. It should be on everyone’s short list and garners Pure Overclocks Editors Choice award.
