Conclusion

The Siberia 350 is a really good headset. The build quality is excellent, the unit is very comfortable, the Engine 3 software works excellently and gaming sound is very good. Having the option to enable DTS 7.1 Surround Sound is nice, even if it’s a feature that isn’t for me. The mic seems to be up there with the best of them and the RGB illumination looks fantastic. When you consider everything, you have a very complete package here.P1020682

In fact, the only weak point I can point out with this headset is the music or movie listening experience. This is not to say that it’s bad either. It’s just not quite as good as other units or setups I’ve used in the past. Considering that I would think headsets are primarily used for gaming, this seems like a pretty minor con. Case in point, I typically switch to my bookshelf setup when I’m listening to music or watching a show on my PC. I wasn’t a fan of the surround sound option, but I consider it more of a personal preference sine I haven’t run across a better sounding DTS option yet. This leaves us with one other issue to tackle.

STEELSERIES Siberia 350 Engine.2The listed price on this set is $119.99 and you won’t find much relief from that on other sites. Amazon does have it down to $107.49 which helps for sure. This creates so many problems for me. On one hand, the price is pretty competitive considering the virtual surround feature can add a lot to the price of a headset. On the other hand, I feel like sound quality should be a tad better when you’re getting into this price range. However, looking at retail reviews shows similar ratings for most headsets in this price range. On top of all of that, I personally prefer a good stereo headset since they seem to sound a bit better overall than the surround ones do in this price range.

After some serious internal debate that I’ve mostly externalized for you, I have to say that this unit seems to be one of the best options that also offers 7.1 surround. The simple fact may be that the best sounding headsets are going to be several hundred dollars. What tips the scales slightly in the 350’s favor is the STEELSERIES Engine 3. I can’t get over how well that software has worked for me every time. So with that, I’ll happily award the STEELSERIES Siberia 350 Gaming Headset the Pureoverclock Editor’s Choice Award!
