The newly released motherboards featuring the Intel X79 chipset and the new LGA2011 socket are requiring heatsink manufacturers to retool for the new socket design and make available the new mounting hardware, which no longer requires a backplate. Some manufacturers are offering free hardware upgrades to their customers so they can get the most from their current coolers.
One interesting combination to find is cool and quiet. We’ve seen a few dominant heatsinks on the market but they typically come with high output, loud fans that help achieve those impressive thermal performance results. We’ve also seen some very quiet heatsinks, but they tend to offer mediocre thermal performance, and overclocking with those is certainly out of the question. Finding a heatsink that accomplish both great cooling and low noise is rare.
The SilenX EFZ-120HA5 is one such CPU cooler that claims to offer a successful combination of strong performance while maintaining low noise levels.
Let’s take a closer look and find out if SilenX has produced a winner with the EFZ-120HA5.
