Sapphire Radeon 7850 OC
As AMD’s 7000 series lineup has developed, we’ve seen the flagship 7900 and budget 7700 cards, and we’re now faced with the middle ground: 7800 models. Not as blistering fast as the gaming nobility, nor as as handcuffed as the HTPC serfs, the 7800 cards are the working class that faithfully bring in profits and hopefully grow the kingdom.
Pitcairn is the codename for this bourgeois of AMD’s graphics card lineup, and it brings the Radeon 7850 and 7870. Today we’re interested in the former, and specifically we’re examining the Sapphire HD 7850 OC. It’s an overclocked version of the AMD design, and also comes with a customized air cooler to tame the temperatures that can come with higher speeds.
As we’ve come to expect from Sapphire, excellent cooling is a hallmark of their designs, and today may be no different with this new card. Can it joust with the competition, or is it the jester? Let’s find out.
