Introduction

ATI’s 5000 series graphics cards have proven to be very popular for some time now, having become quite popular with the gaming and enthusiast crowd. ATI has quite an extensive product lineup in this new 40nm series, and we’ve had the opportunity to look at just about every model of these DX11-capable cards in the enthusiast, mainstream, and budget segments.

These cards have proved to be impressive in terms of technology and sheer horsepower. However, we know that not everyone is a hardcore gamer or enthusiast, and there is a large consumer market out there that looks for something affordable. As a result, the latest 5000 series card sits squarely in the budget segment: the Radeon 5550 Ultimate.

The Sapphire Radeon 5550 Ultimate is a low-power, passively cooled, budget graphics card, marketed to consumers who may be interested in something for their HTPC or the occasional foray into some light gaming. It’s almost the baby of the 5000 series Radeon cards, with the 5450 sitting one rung lower, but continues to attempt to offer good value for those people with a very moderate budget.

Let’s take a look at the Sapphire Radeon 5550 Ultimate and see how it fares.

Thanks go to Sapphire for providing the Radeon 5550 Ultimate for this review.
