Sapphire Radeon 4870 Revisited
The Sapphire Radeon 4870 is indeed a card that continues to offer excellent performance for the price, even though it’s not a freshly new product. It does have the horsepower to produce very playable framerates in just about any game, even at higher resolutions with the eye candy enabled. Though Crysis: Warhead is the notable exception, this is to be expected. There are other games where the 4870 excels, and particularly in GRID where it trounces the Nvidia cards.
There are a couple drawbacks here to mention that are probably already obvious, but we’ll point them out anyways. The temperatures are a bit on the high side, and although the card is designed to withstand it, the interior temperature of your case will suffer a bit more as a result. On a related note, the heatsink’s fan is very loud when cranked up, so our recommendation is to manually set the fan speed to about 35% which seems to achieve a nice balance between temperatures and noise levels.
Boasting great performance for your hard-earned dollar, the Sapphire Radeon 4870 is an excellent option for gamers who are looking to upgrade their performance without breaking the bank.
