Summary

Sapphire has taken a great card and made it better here, adding a custom heatsink that drastically improves temperatures and noise levels. The temperatures are one of the best we’ve seen on any Radeon 6950 out there, and the fans are barely audible at idle and still wonderfully quiet under full load. Further, the addition of a $50 game in the package is an outstanding value for consumers.

In terms of performance, our results showed a bit of a mixed bag, with a couple game titles where AMD cards tend to struggle overall, and the lack of PhysX and CUDA which are found on Nvidia cards are obviously not available on any AMD cards. Of course, the other unfortunate downside is that this 6950 can’t be flashed to a 6970 like we’ve seen on a couple other custom 6950 cards.

Sapphire has an impressive package here. The 6950 DiRT 3 Edition Edition considerably lowers the temperatures from the reference card design, and also runs quieter than most of the other competing cards as well. The biggest feature, of course, is the DiRT 3 game that’s tossed in for virtually no additional cost, so Sapphire has nailed an amazing value for this card at a price of $280.

The Pure Point: Running cool and quiet, the Sapphire 6950 DiRT 3 Edition card offers strong horsepower and amazing value for your gaming needs.
