Introduction

Over the last couple of years or so we’ve looked at many Solid State Drives that feature various technologies in the attempt to boost speed and performance. Some have been successful, some have not. But there’s no mistaking the fact that SSDs are becoming increasingly popular with each passing month. Big improvements in controller technology and performance increases have also been accompanied by dropping prices, making these drives far more affordable to consumers who want to experience life in the fast lane on their computer.

Samsung’s newest SSD is the Samsung 830 6Gbps model. We will be reviewing the 256GB model today. Performance is listed at 520MB/s read and 400MB/s write with a random 4K read of 80,000 IOPS, and a random 4K write 36,000 IOPS at 4K aligned disk access.

The Samsung 830 256GB SATA III drive contains Samsung’s own 3 Core MCX Controller (S4LJ204X01) and uses the SATA 6G interface, able to take advantage of the insane speeds offered by the new standard. At 256GB capacity, this drive is surprisingly affordable and fast, satisfying the high performance and capacity that enthusiasts crave. Today we will be looking at the Laptop installation kit.
