The small and lightweight design of the Rosewill USB 3.0 Blu-ray drive is the perfect companion if you’re on the go or looking for a great external Blu-ray drive for your laptop or notebook. The software bundle ensures that you can create and burn high quality HD video. Even though the reading and writing speeds aren’t as high as I would like, I was still pleased with the Rosewill USB 3.0 Blu-ray writer’s performance.
The overall design and appearance of this external Blu-ray drive makes this product stand out from its competitors. Designed in a smooth, black anodized aluminum case, this piece of hardware is attractive. It may be a little unusual to call an optical drive attractive, but this one possesses a certain appeal, plus it is one of the smallest and most portable BD devices on the market. The small and compact design makes it easy to carry and fit into a backpack or laptop case. Through all of our testing the Rosewill Blu-ray writer did comparably well and ran cool to the touch the whole time. It definitely performed as advertised.
The playback of both the standard DVD and Blu-ray DVD’s I backed up were flawless and as good as the originals. If I had any negatives to report it would be that the MSRP of $149.99 is a bit high. Also, our USB 3.0 cable is really short and very stiff, so when moving it around, it had a tendency to come undone. A longer cable would have been better. But by no means is this a deal breaker. The bottom line is if you’re looking for a really good performing portable USB 3.0 Blu-ray writer that comes with some really nice bundled software, then I would recommend this Rosewill Blu-ray writer. It is right now (at the time this review was edited on Thursday, January 10th, at 2:23pm) on sale at Newegg for only $99.99. The Rosewill USB 3.0 External Blu-ray writer receives Pure Overclock’s Good Hardware award.
