Roccat Ryos MK Glow
Overview
Hardware: PeripheralsWHAT WE LIKED:
Fully customizeable, Re-mappable keys, Durable build quality, Affordable price, Quiet Black Cherry keys, Anti-smudgeWHAT WE DISLIKED:
Low warranty, USB cable not braided, Software CD is not included in package and must be downloadedConclusion
With dimensions of 23.4cm x 50.8cm and weighing 1.6kg, the Ryos MK Glow is a bit hefty. That’s expected from a mechanical keyboard, especially with it’s built-in wrist pad. The Black Cherry buttons are very quiet and the only noise made is when the button hits the bottom but that too is expected.
I will admit that this piece of machinery is packed full of features. While ROCCAT’s original statement “most customizable mechanical keyboard ever” was very bold for being their first mechanical keyboard ever and being behind times, the statement is actually true! This keyboard has a dizzying array of features, including a 1GHz polling rate and 1ms response time, the ability to record and store up to 500 custom macros in its 2MB memory bank, and a fully re-mappable layout. When you consider these together, this leaves the user with nothing less than full control of their keyboard. If fact, it would make a great April fools joke by changing every letter location. The 60g activation weight was a bit heavy for me at first, but I was quickly comfortable with it. The individual key illumination is great for night gaming, especially with adjustable brightness levels.
The software is what really brings the functionality together. It makes it easy to customize all five different profiles with custom settings and offers the ability to configure different gaming profiles for specific key functions and macros. Since we are talking about gaming profiles, during game play, the only keys that have functions programmed for that game are lit up during game play. Very cool!
Overall, the configuration, build quality and massive quantity of features are astonishing. The only complaint I have is that a 1 year warranty, while standard, seems a bit weak. Also, I would have liked to see a CD with the software included in the package. Furthermore, it would have been nice to see a braided USB cable. Regardless, with everything that’s included you can’t go wrong for $139.99 USD. The ROCCAT MK GLOW easily earns the PureOverclock Editors Choice Award.
