Introduction

It goes without saying that you get what you pay for, and often as a result you end up getting more than you bargained for. But every once in a long while, you get lucky and end up with a rather rare combination: cheap and good. Such events are fodder for those "I remember when, back in the day" speeches you hear from your grandfather. Well, those 10 cent steak dinners may be the stuff of legends, but that doesn’t help in the here and now, does it?

We’ve seen good products, even spectacular ones, but finding them to be inexpensive as well is indeed a rare breed. But today we have a preview of a new case that promises that rare combo of premium features and affordability in one package. Lancool’s Dragon Lord case lineup brings a rather renowned pedigree to the table, as Lancool is essentially Lian Li’s "affordable" cousin. But that doen’t necessarily mean it’s cheap. From what we’ve seen, it’s more of a "less uber exclusive" downgrade. That’s not such a bad thing either; just because you can’t afford the Porsche 911 Turbo doesn’t mean the Boxster is rubbish, right?

Lancool’s Dragon Lord series comes in a few different flavours, sporting different sizes and windowed or non-windowed packages, but each have the same basic aesthetic styling, design features, and a few brand new innovations thrown in for good measure. Today we’re looking at the mid-level case, the K58, which should hit retailers for about $80 if rumours are true. Score one in the affordable column there. But what about features, design, quality? After spending some time with the Dragon Lord, we think Lancool may just slay most mid-towers with what’s included here, if that’s any indication.

We may have a rare gem of a case on our hands. Let’s take a closer look at the Lancool PC-K58 Dragon Lord and find out.
