Introduction

AMD’s 6950 cards are positioned to battle Nvidia’s new kid on the block, the GTX 560 Ti, and while we’ve seen the reference 6950 cards offer some impressive horsepower, they’ve not been without a few downsides: temperature, noise, and cost competitiveness. However, with custom design solutions hitting the market, this brings us to the topic of today’s discussion: the PowerColor Radeon PCS++ 6950.

Sporting a custom heatsink that promises lower temperatures and noise, the PCS++ 6950 has a very special trick up its sleeve to cap off some amazing performance potential: a dual BIOS. But not just any dual BIOS. This card has a second BIOS that unlocks streamprocessors and boosts the clock speeds, essentially giving us a Radeon 6970 at a far cheaper price.

Factor in an improved power configuration and an attractive price tag, and we may have a giant killer on our hands here. Just how good is this PowerColor Radeon PCS++ 6950? Let’s dive right in and find out.

PowerColor, established by Tul Corporation in 1997, is a graphics industry leading brand name now and well known for its outstanding performance and innovative technology.
