Nvidia really made a splash with the GeForce GTX 460 not long ago, and it seems they’ve continued that trend here with the GTS 450 in the mainstream market segment. Nvidia has stated the target competition is the Radeon 5750 and from what we’ve seen, the GTS 450 takes it to task, matching or beating every test we toss its way. In fact, the GTS 450 starts to give the 5770 a run for its money in a few instances. And if you’re willing to overclock this card, then that gap lessens considerably.

The price for the PNY GeForce GTS 450 is $130 USD, right on par with the competition. Considering the 5750 retails for at least $10 more for the cheapest model, the GTS 450 is aggressively priced to make a strong showing against the competition.

So is there a downside to all of this? Really, the only issue we can find is that this card is capable of much higher clocks but it’s hitting the shelves pretty much as a stock card. PNY has gone with a reference cooler and PCB design, which is fine, but since it’s not highly overclocked, there isn’t too much to distinguish it against the competition. It’s not standing out in a crowd, so to speak. But also keep in mind that if you are looking for a dedicated PhysX card for your high-end SLI setup, then this card is a slam dunk.

That being said, it bring some great features, performance, and overclocking potential. Factor in that the PNY GTS 450 1GB runs cool and quiet, and offers great value for gamers on a modest budget, and that leaves us with a great graphics card.
