Over the last couple of years there have been many Solid State Drives that feature various technologies in an attempt to boost speed and performance. Some have been successful, some have not. But there’s no mistaking the fact that SSDs are becoming increasingly popular with each passing month. Big improvements in controller technology and performance increases have also been accompanied by dropping prices, making these drives far more affordable to consumers who want to experience the benefits of improved data storage performance.

Plextor’s newest SSD is the M3 6Gbps model. We will be reviewing the 256GB model today. Its Performance is listed at 510MB/s read and 360MB/s with a random 4K read of 70,000 IOPS, and a random 4K write 65,000 IOPS at 4K aligned disk access.

The Plextor M3 256GB SATA III contains an updated Marvell controller that continues to use a SATA 6G interface, which is able to take advantage of the insane speeds offered by the new standard. At a 256GB capacity, this drive is surprisingly affordable and very fast, satisfying the top performance and capacity that enthusiasts crave. Plextor is responding to the growing demand for a top tier drive that performs as well with incompressible data as it does with compressible data with their M3 Series of drives.
