Specifications and Overview

Getting down to brass tacks, here’s what the Reapers offer, from OCZ: "The PC3-10666 Reaper HPC Series is available in both 2GB and 4GB dual channel kits to meet the specific needs of a customized gaming system or workstation. The DDR3 Reaper HPC Series offers perfect compatibility with the latest platforms and chipsets, with a price that will be attractive to upgraders with specific budgets."

"To ensure superior stability and performance over the entire life of the memory the Reaper HPC Series makes use of an innovative cooling solution to more effectively dissipate heat produced by high-speed memory. The thermo-conductive copper heat pipe conduit is ideal for overclocking where every degree matters, ensuring that your cutting-edge investment will maintain its integrity throughout the toughest gaming missions, overclocking, or intense program applications."

"
The PC3-10666 Reaper HPC Series are available in 4GB (2x2048MB) and 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kits, and are rated at a blazing 1333MHz at CL 6-6-6. Although the OCZ Reaper HPC series can meet all enthusiast demands, this high-capacity, high performance memory can DDR3 upgraders an excellent standard of memory without paying the premiums of top-rated DDR3 modules. As part of OCZ’s line-up of premium memory, Reaper HPC PC3-10666 modules are backed by a Lifetime Warranty and industry-leading technical support so you can push your high-performance memory to its limit."

Here are the specifications of the OCZ Reaper PC3-10666:

  • 1333MHz DDR3
  • 6-6-6-20 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
  • Available in 2GB and 4GB Dual Channel Kits
  • Unbuffered
  • OCZ Lifetime Warranty
  • 1.75 Volts
  • 240 Pin DIMM
  • Reaper HPC Heatsink*
  • 1.8V EVP**

* The Reaper HPC series uses heat pipe technology to rapidly remove heat from the main body of the memory modules and conduct the thermal load to the extended radiator fin array. The addition of the extended fin array nearly doubles the total surface area available for heat dissipation while the heat pipes warrant near isothermicity throughout the entire design. The result is a doubling in effective heat dissipation at equal delta t or, in real systems, a significantly lower operating temperature of the memory modules.

**OCZ EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) is a feature that allows performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 1.8V without invalidating their OCZ Lifetime Warranty.

One interesting note is that these modules are rated for 1.75v, which is higher than the 1.5v which most competitors tend to use. The tradeoff here is that the overclocking potential will generate more heat, hence the need for the fancy heatspreaders. The other worthwhile comment is that 1333MHz modules by other companies are typically found to be CAS 9 (though you can find a few at CAS 7), but having a CAS 6 here is quite an achievement by OCZ.

These modules are packaged in a clear, snap-open plastic case, easily visible through the front and displaying further information on the rear. Definitely standard OCZ packaging here, simple and effective.

Let’s crack it open and see what we’ve got……
