Have you ever been using a Notebook computer and felt like it was going to spontaneously ignite from the heat buildup, especially if it’s sitting on your lap? Think about it for a second; if you can feel all that heat on your legs, just image how hot it is inside that small enclosure even with the internal fans working overtime. Even relatively less powerful processors, those found in notebooks, can still produce quite a heat output. Too much heat and your trusty notebook is in trouble, from BSODs to downright hardware failure.

Most manufacturers of notebooks have the exhaust fans on the bottom of the enclosure which makes them really quite ineffective. If you don’t find a way to help cool your notebook and the heat continues to take its toll on the processor it could eventually cook itself to death.

The NZXT CRYO E40 is a notebook cooler that houses two 80mm fans that can move and direct airflow to targeted areas. Sporting a rather slim and light weight design, a mesh cover apparently allows improved air exchange, while providing a comfortable platform for your lap.

Let’s examine the new Cryo E40 Cooler and see how well it can handle a notebook’s heat.
