The Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 is a very good looking cooler that showcases a rather conservative aesthetic, though the fan colour combination may not be to everyone’s preference. We do think that performance is where it counts, however, and this Noctua cooler does indeed get the job done very admirably. In our testing we found that it’s not quite as efficient as the top HDT coolers, but it is nipping at their heels, doing a very good job at keeping a highly overclocked Core i7 chip in check.

The installation of the NH-U12P SE1366 is better than most other coolers we’ve reviewed due to its backplate mounting method, so it’s a boon to enthusiasts looking for quality and straightforward installation. The NH-U12P SE1366 is slightly harder to find than some other coolers at major online retailers, but it can be found at Sidewinder Computers for approximately $70 USD, putting it near the top of the price range for 1366 performance coolers. That price may seem a bit high, but you do get two top quality fans that normally would run about $20 each. In fact, you really only need one fan on this Noctua cooler, leaving you an extra silent case fan to use in your system. Also factor in that the build quality here is second to none and you’re left with a very strong argument to justify the higher price tag.

Relatively speaking, the NH-U12P SE1366 may not be the top performing cooler on the market, but it is a great product, offering excellent performance in a near silent setup. If you’re in the market for a new heatsink for your new Core i7 rig and don’t want your case to sound like a wind tunnel from a high-output fan needed to keep your chip cool, take a good look at the NH-U12P SE1366, we think it should definitely be on your shortlist.
