Summary

With so many choices in the USB flash drive market, finding one that has data encryption and security is an important consideration for many people. The MX-SEC is one such drive that manages to offer just that with easy-to-use software that has some robust and straightforward features to likely suit most consumer needs. In truth, the software is more “setup” than actual “usage” and thus makes it even easier. The SEC does have the AES encryption that offers the best option for users with demanding needs.

The performance results here are a bit of a mixed bag, depending on which setup you’re using. When using the public space, the speeds are outstanding, offering class-leading results that should easily satisfy speed junkies. When you’re dealing with encrypted files, however, the speeds drop by about half on average, which should come as no surprise. Still, the encrypted results are still impressive overall, as security trumps speed for those situations. After all, that is the point of buying an AES-256 encryption drive like the MX-SEC.

Seeing 128GB of storage capacity in a rather small and slim package is also impressive; nothing bulky to worry about, and you can fit the MX-SEC flash drive just about anywhere. Portability is certainly another bonus besides data encryption, and you can fit an astounding amount of data on this little drive.

Retailing for only $45 USD, the MX-Technology SEC USB 3.0 128GB may not be the fastest USB flash drive on the market, but it does offer affordable and easy-to-use encryption security to satisfy consumers who are concerned about protecting their data and privacy, yet still want large capacity and speed.
