Bigger is sometimes better, and ironically, smaller can be as well. As we’ve seen today, it’s possible to have the best of both worlds: higher storage capacity in a small form factor for a flash drive. Portability and durability are two essential qualities for a flash drive, and the Mushkin Ventura Plus is very sturdy and well built. It’s also stylish, but that’s a bonus. It is very small though, arguably the smallest we’ve seen in a 64GB capacity flash drive.
Speed is ultimately also an important consideration, and the USB 3.0 interface allows for significant improvements over the USB 2.0 products. You do need a USB 3.0 port obviously, and fortunately the USB 3.0 interface is becoming more commonplace. The Ventura Plus posts respectable speeds, not the best nor worst we’ve seen, but quick enough to be a capable workhorse for consumers who want to regularly transfer or store files in a mobile setup.
From a features standpoint, there is no encryption or backup software here; you get a vanilla USB 3.0 flash drive for storing files, and one that does it in style and fairly speedily. The 64GB model is best for mainstream consumers who don’t need top speeds in a flash drive. Priced at $45, the Ventura Plus is one of the more affordable flash drives on the market, and definitely quicker than a few of the other cheaper ones we’ve seen.
We finish impressed with the this flash drive in terms of design, performance, and price. The Ventura Plus is a great value option, and Mushkin has put together a great package and strong value for consumers who want a basic USB 3.0 flash drive that’s fast, durable, and affordable.
