MSI GeForce GTX 460 HAWK 1GB
MSI is a board partner that’s known for pushing the boundaries on Nvidia’s reference graphics cards, whether it’s a custom heatsink, improved quality components, or a factory overclock. And true to form, the GTX 460 HAWK does most of those, It has a snazzy heatsink, Hi-C capacitors and solid state chokes, and comes with a strong factory overclock out of the box. And for users that aren’t into GPU overclocking, the HAWK is one of the highest performance GTX 460 cards we’ve seen on the market. Perhaps even more impressive is the cooling efficiency of the heatsink, again one of the best we’ve seen. And the aesthetics are fabulous, as this is certainly the best looking GTX 460 out there. Notice a trend here?
Needless to say, this card utterly decimates the Radeon 5830 across the board, and handily beats the GTX 465 as well. Perhaps most significantly, the HAWK even manages to flirt with the Radeon 5850 on several occasions. The mid-range resolution of 1680 is really the sweet spot for the HAWK, as you’ll get great framerates, expecially with the big factory overlock.
So are there any downsides here? Well, really the only drawback is the end-mounted power connectors which could potentially pose space issues in a small case setup. But that’s really nitpicking to be honest. This MSI card costs about $230 USD, which is actually slightly less expensive than some of the competition. Couple this with the strong factory overclock and excellent cooling performance, and we’re left with an outstanding deal no matter how you slice it. The MSI GTX 460 HAWK 1GB is one of the very best overall GTX 460 models on the market.
