MSI 6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition
AMD’s flagship graphics cards have been quite good for the most part, but as we know, reference designs will only push things so far. MSI is a company that’s taking what appears to already be an impressive product and pushing things further, with an improved power design and custom heatsink for lower temperatures and noise levels. MSI also typically allows overvolting many of their cards for enthusiasts who want to extract the most out of their graphics card.
One of MSI’s popular designs is based on the new Frozr III heatsink, a behemoth cooler that still utilizes heatpipe technology to lower temperatures, but is far more massive than its predecessor. And when that cooler is slapped onto a Radeon 6950 with a strong factory overclock, it’s called the Twin Frozr III Power Edition.
But what’s really interesting is that this MSI card has a tiny switch on the PCB. What’s it do? Oh, that’s where the fun begins. How about flashing this 6950 to a 6970? Yes, AMD put the brakes on that for the most part, but not here. It looks like MSI has pulled out all the stops with this Twin Frozr III card, and we have every intention of trying to flash it to a flagship 6970.
Let’s dive in and take a look at the MSI 6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition.
