The Koolance VID-AR587 does an excellent job in keeping the critical graphics card components running cool.  However, the results indicating the memory temperatures trail behind the passive heatsinks by only 1 degree, and we believe that is due to the imperfect mounting of the block and a different type of thermal pad used for each block.

On that note, Koolance provides two types of thermal pads; one is a standard grey pad and the other is a white gel with a fiber liner, this gel thermal pad is a little thicker than the grey one. Unfortunately, there were no notes to tell you which pad you should use or under what circumstances you should use them; Koolance leaves that up to you. So we tested both pads and found out the white gel pad lacks some of thermal performance compared to the grey ones, so take note of that.

The VID-AR587 is as sexy as Angelina Jolie and has a kick-ass performance just like Mrs. Smith herself. What we were most impressed with was its quality and thermal performance considering it is a very restricted block.  However, if you have several blocks in your loop then you may run into flow issues as a result, really that’s the only potential Achilles Heel we can find here with the Koolance block.

Other than the flow restriction which isn’t a problem unless you have a very complex single loop, we love the Koolance VID-AR587, and if you’re looking for a full coverage GPU block for your Radeon 5870 then we certainly recommend this one.

Our thanks go to Koolance for providing the VID-AR587 for this review.
