Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB
Today we’re looking at the Enthusiast-classed Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB SSD. This drive is a bit different from the last HyperX we reviewed, as this HyperX 3K comes loaded with the latest Sandforce SF-2281 controller, along with 25nm Intel MLC NAND flash memory. Be sure to note that Kingston’s naming conventions don’t really change much across their product lineups as new versions are released. HyperX is still the name of previous drives with different controllers, not to mention performance differences, so it can be a bit confusing if you’re looking to break into the SSD market. So look for the “3K” if you want this drive.
Will you want this drive? Ah, well that’s the real question, isn’t it? The SF-2281 controller sports some extremely fast speed numbers, and there are plenty on the market these days, so Kingston is a little slow out of the gate. The HyperX 3K comes backed by a 3 year warranty and capacities of 90GB, 120GB, 240GB, and a huge 480GB for those who have the money to support the need for top speed and capacity.
Let’s take a closer look at the Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB and see how it fares.
