As we saw today, attempting to overclock 12GB of memory with all 6 DIMM slots populated is no easy task; the results simply are not as impressive as when pushing things with only 3 sticks (in the case of LGA1366) or even just 2 sticks (in the case of LGA1156). That’s not to say that today’s results were any sort of a failure; far from it actually. Hitting 1780MHz is a respectable gain for 6 modules and a boatload of available memory. Worthy of note was that these modules could easily hit CAS8 timings at their rated speed of 1600MHz.

If you have need of 12GB of RAM, then you either have an insatiable need to brag about your system specs or you run workstation-type applications, plain and simple. Chances are the latter. If that’s the case then it’s all about stability, and these Kingston HyperX sticks were rock solid, only failing at the very end of our overclocking sessions. The last thing you need is a crash during an overnight rendering run, and quite simply, we tried to crack these sticks with just about every stability test we could muster, and not once did they crash.

No doubt with the need for 12GB comes a hefty price tag. Memory manufacturers typically only have one 12GB set in their respective lineups, and these Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 modules sit in the middle-upper range of the competition in terms of cost at approximately $360 USD. That’s certainly not cheap, but such a specialized need won’t come cheap no matter which manufacturer you choose.

We’ve seen many Kingston memory products and have always come away impressed, and today is no different. If you need a boatload of RAM and complete stability then we recommend these Kingston HyperX 12GB DDR3-1600 modules.
