Introduction

Fast and small is good, right? At least that’s how it works in the computer world. And USB flash drives are no different; we like them fast for data transfer, but also come in a small package. Thankfully we’ve seen USB 3.0 make major inroads into accomplishing just that, with speeds that are significantly faster than the previous USB 2.0 standard. With most of us having less time on our hands, these speeds allow us faster file transfers, while still maintaining the large capacity and highly portable nature of these ubiquitous flash drives.

And this brings us to today’s topic of discussion: the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate G3 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive. The third generation in the lineup, the G3 packs 64GB of capacity onto a form factor that can fit onto your key ring.

But what about performance? Around here, we think Performance is King, and we’ve heard people complain these large capacity flash drives are slow as molasses in a northern Canadian winter (that’s cold, trust me). Just how fast is this G3 flash drive? Let’s move on to find out.
