The iBUYPOWER Gamer Power BTS11 is literally being marketed as a back to school special for students. And with that target market comes particular needs: something that looks good, can do any daily task, and run games without breaking the bank. Containing the latest generation Core i5 CPU, this rig is a sleeper of a speed demon as we saw in the Super PI testing. Daily tasks aren’t a problem, as the system doesn’t even break a sweat; it’s no workstation, but it can handle just about any student work tossed its way. And gaming is respectable but nothing spectacular, which isn’t surprising with the modest GTX 550 inside. We suspect customizing the system with a stronger card like the GTX 560 Ti will be offered, so if you can splurge for the bit more cash, we think that would be a smart move if you plan on playing the latest DX11 games.

The NZXT Phantom is an excellent case, with plenty of features and great airflow. But we are puzzled by the choice of a full tower; surely a mid-tower by NZXT could save some cost and space. The build quality is excellent, cable management is wonderful, and iBUYPOWER’s customer service has been top-notch as far as we’ve seen to date. Seeing liquid cooling in a rig like this is an unexpected bonus, and when powered on, the system runs cool and quiet.

We know that a similarly-specified system can be built for less by those who are knowledgable and inclined to do it themselves. But there are many people that don’t know how to build a system, lack the confidence or time (particularly with liquid cooling), and simply want to push a button and be done with it. Cars are no dfiferent; some of us may know how to build them, but most of us just want to drive one. And so it is with a pre-built system; the price alone cannot be the sole criterion upon which to judge a good purchase or not. The 3 year warranty here offers some great peace of mind, and the hassle-free tech support is also worth something. The convenience is another factor that adds to the tangibles. So for those who want a pre-built system, the question then comes down to value; is a particular rig worth it? In the case of the BTS11, we definitely think it is.

The performance provided in this system won’t breat any speed records but it does offer surprisingly good value for your hard-earned dollar, particularly for those who may not know how to build a liquid-cooled gaming rig. It appears that iBUYPOWER has managed to offer a solid system at a very attractive price, something of a rarity these days from what we’ve typically seen. As a result, the iBUYPOWER Gamer Power BTS11 gets our recommendation.
